01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
When the mood calls for grilling hearty portions of beef and enjoying them with steamed rice or a cold drink, Tonri in Hongo is an easy choice. The menu covers the yakiniku essentials—salted beef tongue, kalbi, skirt steak (harami), and lean cuts—while offering thicker options such as thick-cut tongue and long kalbi for those who want more bite.
From Sharing Platters to Solo Grilling
For groups, generous platters make ordering simple: the 300 g beef platter combines kalbi, loin, skirt steak, and lean beef, while the 500 g meat assortment brings together Wagyu kalbi, lean beef, chicken thigh, and pork belly. There are also mixed platters featuring offal, as well as individual orders of shimacho, mountain tripe (mino), and beef heart for diners who prefer adding variety one plate at a time. The room is equally accommodating for solo diners who want to focus quietly on grilling harami or heart with a bowl of rice.
Side Dishes, Soups, and Finishing Bowls
Between rounds on the grill, assorted kimchi, seasoned namul, and a refreshing salted salad work well as palate cleansers. To finish the meal, the kitchen prepares classic stone-pot bibimbap and cold noodles alongside warming soups, ranging from milky gomtang bone broth to hearty kalbi soup and spicy tofu jjigae.
Tonri transitions smoothly between day and night, offering lunchtime set meals and noodle bowls for a quick bite, followed by evening grill sessions paired with draft beer, highballs, or makgeolli.
